Product photos and video, converted for you
Shipped on 25 August 2026
Buyers look before they read. In RedCart you upload photos and a product video in the cabinet, and the store prepares them for the storefront in the background.
What you get
- Photo upload in the cabinet, straight onto the product.
- Automatic size presets for every image: JPEG at quality 85, including square crops.
- WebP and GIF files are accepted as uploads.
- The same upload sets your store logo and the homepage hero image.
- One video per product, in mp4, webm, MOV or M4V.
How it works
When you upload an image, a background worker picks it up and converts it into the size presets the storefront uses. You upload one file; the worker makes the size versions the storefront needs, including square crops, so you do not have to resize anything yourself.
Video follows the same path. You attach a video to a product, and the worker converts it in the background with ffmpeg. While the conversion runs, the product photo stays on the page, so buyers never see an empty spot.
Later the same day, at noon, we added handling for videos recorded on phones, so a clip shot on a phone can go onto the product page.
Why this matters for your store
Good visuals usually mean a lot of manual resizing and file conversion. Here the work moves to the background: you upload the original and keep filling in the product while the store prepares the files. The logo and hero use the same tool, so your whole storefront is set up from one place.
What we verified
We checked the media tables, the cabinet upload endpoint, the image and video converters in the background worker, and the change that added phone video formats.
